As a boy Vincent van Gogh was not a very happy child, but he loved to draw. His failure to become a Christian Pastor, and his love of art is what made him decide to become an artist. He is known as an impressionist painter. His thousands of paintings were created with oil paint and watercolors. Two of his most famous paintings are a self-portrait and “The Starry Night”. Most of his life van Gogh suffered with mental illness and died of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
