Robert F. Kennedy was the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy and was very involved in civil rights.  He served as Attorney General for President Lyndon B. Johnson from January 1961 through September 1964.  In 1964 he won the democratic vote for United States Senator of New York where he served as senator until his death.  As a candidate of the Democratic Party, Kennedy began campaigning for The United States Presidency and won the primary election.   After delivering a victory speech at The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, he was mortally wounded after being shot by assassin Sirhan, Sirhan.
